Hi guys!I thought you would enjoy this little article from St Tropez and The Mirror when they interviewed the spray tanner at Strictly Come Dancing. It just goes to show, lots of people are nervous about their first spray tan. It's given me an idea for a You Tube video for spray tan virgins. Anyway, enjoy! Greetings readers. Greetings from a land where sequins are the normal attire, glitter spray is the currency and ballroom is the language
That’s right, I’m backstage at Strictly Come Dancing 2013.
As you may well know I am a celebrity spray tanner and for the last 4 months have been devoted to tanning the stars and dancers of Strictly. From fuscia pinks to neon greens, the bright costumes and make up at Strictly create a theme and a level of excitement, no point having the celebrities ghostly white on the ball room floor. Time to tan.
Each Friday the celebrities are down at the studios rehearsing for their live show on Saturday. Tensions run high and rehearsals are really their only time to practice on the TV set. After each couple has rehearsed they come up to our tanning room and have a moment to reflect on their routine and have a treatment with us.
At first, some of the celebrities were incredibly nervous about having a spray tan, thinking they’d turn out orange or streaky. Once we talk through the process, show them the results (wearing a tan yourself on that day really does help!) and reassure them that we are the experts, then its full steam ahead.
I use a Bronzing Mist that comes in a few different shades – but all react with the individual’s skin to deliver a unique and natural looking colour – for example, I could spray Natalie, Abbey, Dave and Ashley with the same bottle of solution and they would all turn a totally different colour. And here’s where it gets technical. As tanners, you have to try and match your couple in their hue. Brendan always has a light tan because Sophie doesn’t wear self tan. Kevin needs to be almost triple dipped to get him the colour that Susannah goes after just one light coat.
After that first week is over and the nerves of the show have passed, the tanning becomes a lot of fun for all and the celebrities see how great it is to have a lift in colour when their skin starts to look a little grey due to their long hours rehearsing.
I’ve had Dave Myers leaping into the tent, so incredibly excited to be bronzed, Abbey Clancy has literally banged down our door (a true Scouse) and Ashley Taylor Dawson has become a huge fan of the tan. A spray tan really does lift the mood! Even Ben Cohen is a spray tan convert – it’s all part of the fun and process of the Strictlification.
Not only do we give spray tans on the Friday but for the weekend shows we offer ‘Skin Finishing’. This is where we can contour the bodies, illuminate shoulders and limbs and add another level of definition. From creating a super dominant six-pack on Ashley Taylor-Dawson for his Aladdin costume, to almost dowsing Deborah Meaden in glitter – I’ve seen it all.
